My Summer Fitness Essentials.

As I’ve written about semi-extensively in the past week, one of my goals for 2025 was to be consistently active. My hope was to move my body for at least 30-45 minutes most days of the week. For much of the year, this has meant running and Heather Robertson strength training videos (I absolutely love the format) but I really hit a wall this month and found myself unmotivated. I took a short break (channeling Anne Lamott: “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you”) and then tried walking with a weighted vest instead of running. It really helped start my engines again. Helping my cause: I also tested out some fun new fitness gear, including the adorable gingham athletic dress above from Addison Bay, which may be my new favorite athletic dress. Really flattering and actually I kind of like that it doesn’t have the built-in shorts beneath. Sometimes those are a blessing and sometimes they’re a pain. For a simple walk, the dress was perfect as is — the weight/structure of the fabric really kept things in place and it’s not as short as some of the other styles out there. (If playing tennis or doing something more active, this Lululemon is the best.)

In general, though, the items below have been my most-consistently used items during these hot summer months:

18. The best hair ties for being active — they’re so gentle on my hair!

20. Vuori long sleeve.

21. Rhone quarter zip! I’d love to sport this as mornings start to become chillier.
