Today, a roundup of my favorite suits for hanging with the kids — pieces that offer enough coverage but are still chic, colorful, and fun.

EYELET // FLORA CUT-OUT // SCALLOP ONE SHOULDER // NAVY PRIMROSE // NAVY FLORAL STRIPE
01. My swim obsession of the season — the Flora one-piece suit. Select other colors here. (Runs TTS!)
02. Navy print with a low back — all of Minnow’s suits are so flattering and well-designed, with a nice and thick fabric that holds you in. Run a tad shy of TTS. I’d still take your true size but find they are tiny bit snug.
03. Eyelet suit with balconette details — N.B.: I’m fairly flat chested but this might be too much if you’re better endowed.
04. A classic and favorite for a reason; great if you’re doing anything active in water.
05. Obsessed with the fit on this Hill House beauty.
06. A little saucier, but I love the style of this and find the actual body of the suit is ultra-flattering.
07. Classic scallop in a variety of colors.
08. SO many Magpies raved about this suit a few years ago and I snagged one!
09. The Hunza G one-piece — I did an in-depth review of this brand’s suits here, but needless to say, this suit is incredible!
Suits on my radar for this summer:
02. This gorgeous print for summer. Can be ordered in your cup size!
03. Another Hill House gem — selling fast! I just received mine in the mail and can’t wait to debut at the pool this weekend.
04. This colorblock one-piece from Summer Salt.
Swimsuit Brands Featuring More Coverage.
And if you’re after more coverage or modesty, here are a few brands I’d consider —
+ Stylest — lots of different options to address different areas of concern / areas you’d prefer to keep covered.
+ Watskin — love that this could be worn as a swimsuit or with a tennis skirt.
Other Pool and Beach Favorites.
+ Pareos: this, this, and this.
+ Jellies: been loving these from J.crew and Ancient Greek always.
+ Beach pants: Eyelet white or these dramatic gauze palazzos.
+ Terry cover ups: my recent obsession or these shorts would be cute!

Would love to hear what moms keep in their bag for pool days! We are just starting out and I am so overwhelmed by trying to pack our whole life into one semi-cute pool bag.
I use travel size sunscreens: one for kids, one for grown ups. Initial sunscreen application is at home so that makes it easy to keep small ones for reapplication. Swim shirts, reusable swim diaper, water shoes (our beaches are rocky). Baby sunglasses and baseball caps. My husband and I bring coolibar UPF shirts since we don’t always have time to reapply sunscreen. My kids’ favorite water toy is a cheap watering can, or we have a splash ball, but mostly we go without toys. Milk cooler bag also has frozen gogurts, string cheese or sometimes watermelon, maybe a Diet Coke for me. There is food there but we get hangry. I use wet bags designed for kayaking and buckle them to the stroller handle. I line the stroller with towels so after we change them they’re usually just in diaper or underwear and I lay them on one towel and tuck them in with the other, to fall asleep on the way home. We try for a full day skipping nap and shower them at the beach club so we can just pop them in bed when we’re home. If I was smarter I’d bring their toothbrushes but I have yet to remember.
Love the note on lining the stroller with towels – I actually had a visceral physical memory of curling up after the pool and falling asleep in towels on the way home!!

I feel you! I think the essentials are having a designated pouch for toys and goggles; a waterproof (truly waterproof, like plastic bag) for wet swimwsuits; pouch with sunscreen, shampoo, detangler, brush, and any emergency items – bandaids, etc; bag of dry clothes (including sometimes a light top layer like sweatshirt, etc, as the kids are always shivering!); and snacks! Mainly it’s about pouches. Keep everything separate and easy to grab.

So I bought the Judy bikini from Hunza G, an absolutely dynamite high waisted red bandeau bikini, and I do love it. HOWEVER, my daughter thinks it’s hilarious to pull down the top until you see nipple. Bit of a mom suit fail, here I was feeling like hot stuff in my new suit! I got a cheap H&M one that’s fine for when the kids are all over me. My goodness
OMG!! Caveat noted!!!
I’m on my second ruched v-neck one piece in navy from jcrew. Great coverage and frequently on sale! I re-ordered when the original started getting baggy after a few years. Those terry shorts are so cute! Would love a look for less if you come across. Reminds me of a pair I had from Express back in the day 🙂
Co-signing on J.Crew swimwear! I have a few from them including the ruched v-neck one-piece (I have that one in 2 colors!) and one-shoulder one-piece. Hurray for padding in cups (no “headlights”!), ruched fabric in the tummy area, and full coverage, non-cheeky bottoms that stay put. I don’t understand how women move around in those cheeky styles! Or maybe that’s the point I’m missing — maybe they just sit and don’t move around?!
Love all the J. Crew praise! xx
Hi! I will keep my eyes out!! xx
